• 10. How do neuromuscular braces differ from non-neuromuscular braces?

  • Neuromuscular braces are based upon several treatment factors. One is determined by an advanced in-depth analysis of the skull from images derived from our 3D technology. This analysis helps determine the proper relationship of the jaws and teeth. It relates to treatment that creates an oral anatomical environment that focus on creating open airways and favorable tongue position. This will allow for clearer thinking, better and deeper sleep, and protect your heart from neural complications that cause high blood pressure. So the children we treat are set up to avoid many future health complications, allowing them to perform at peak performance. For our adult neuromuscular orthodontic patients, we are retreating failed non-neuromuscular orthodontics that has caused many of the TMJ and snoring and sleep apnea, and facial distortion problems that plaque them as adults. It allows us to slow up the aging process and enhance the health over a longer period of time. Functional orthopedic appliances are used to set the stage for any final treatment with braces.

  • Traditional orthodontics starts with braces and usually does not take the position of the TMJ or tongue and airway into consideration. The focus is simply the straightening of the teeth without regard to these other issues.
